Read-only. This server cannot see or change a Business, a Store, a deployment, an Order, or a Payment. It is not the 86d agent transport. Do not send it credentials.
The Docs MCP server gives an AI client structured access to this documentation: every concept, Module page, CLI reference, configuration page, and guide. Two tools: semantic search for conceptual questions, and a read-only shell over a virtual filesystem for exact matching, structure, and full pages. If you are an agent, search first and then read the whole page before acting on it. A matched snippet regularly omits the warning that would have changed your answer. Authorized product operations through Remote OAuth MCP are still being built. There is no public product-operation endpoint or tool catalog today. For how to build on 86d rather than how to read about it, install the agent skills. They are a separate mechanism and reach nothing at runtime.

The two tools

search_86d

Semantic search across everything: concepts, Modules, CLI, configuration, guides. Use it for the questions you would ask a person, such as how to add a payment provider, or what the difference is between a Module and a Template. It returns matched sections with titles and links. To read the whole page, pass its path to query_docs_filesystem_86d.

query_docs_filesystem_86d

A read-only shell over a virtual filesystem rooted at /, holding every page as an .mdx file. It is sandboxed in memory: nothing runs on your machine, on the server host, or over the network. Use it for exact matches, regex, structure, and full pages. Reading a page. There is no separate get-page tool. Pass the path to cat or head:
  • cat /quickstart.mdx
  • head -120 /concepts/modules.mdx
  • cat /modules/cart.mdx /modules/checkout.mdx /modules/orders.mdx
Searching. rg handles keyword and regex:
  • rg -il "stripe" / lists every page that mentions Stripe.
  • rg -C 3 "BETTER_AUTH_SECRET" / returns matches with three lines of context.
  • rg "86d (init|generate|template)" /cli/ scopes to the CLI section.
Exploring. tree and ls show the layout:
  • tree / -L 2 prints the top-level structure.
  • ls /modules/ lists every documented module.
  • ls /guides/ lists every guide.
Available commands. rg, grep, find, tree, ls, cat, head, tail, stat, wc, sort, uniq, cut, sed, awk, jq, and the usual text utilities. No writes, no network, no process control. --help works on any of them.

Every call starts fresh

Calls are independent. The working directory resets to / each time, and no variables, aliases, or history survive. Either use absolute paths or chain into one call:
A cd in one call has no effect on the next.

Output is capped

Each call truncates at 30 KB, so aim rather than sweep:
  • rg -C 3 "pattern" /path/file.mdx pulls only the relevant part of a long page.
  • head -N when the top of the file is enough.
  • Batch reads into one cat call rather than issuing them one at a time.

Citing a page

Drop the .mdx extension to turn a filesystem path into a URL:
  • /quickstart.mdx -> /quickstart
  • /concepts/modules.mdx -> /concepts/modules
  • /modules/cart.mdx -> /modules/cart
